Seth Meyers Calls Out ‘Bullying and Censorship’ as Jimmy Kimmel Returns To Air

Jimmy Kimmel is back, and late-night comedians couldn’t be happier. Seth Meyers, the host of Late Night on NBC, is among the many expressing his delight that Jimmy Kimmel Live! has returned.

Seth called Jimmy’s battle with ABC network executives, U.S. President Donald Trump and the FCC a great example of what can happen when speaking up. “It is possible to stand up to this kind of bullying and censorship,” said Seth.

Jimmy’s show was temporarily taken off the air following his remarks about the Charlie Kirk death.

Jimmy’s suspension at ABC left a bitter taste in people’s mouths. Numerous celebrities, including Seth, were behind the comedian and game show host. That support trickled down to the public. “There has been a massive national backlash to Trump’s crackdown on free speech, even among conservatives,” according to Seth. He believes few, if anyone, thinks even the President should have the power to dictate what TV hosts can and cannot say.

Hundreds of celebrities signed a letter defending the constitutional right to free speech and supporting Jimmy in light of his suspension. Hours later, that suspension was lifted, with his show returning to ABC. On Monday, Disney stated that their decision to suspend the show was made to “avoid further inflaming a tense situation at an emotional moment for our country.”

While Jimmy was reportedly trying to get out of his ABC contract, the comedian ultimately decided agains that. His return was done out of respect for his staff. Many of those jobs were seemingly hanging in the balance when the network suspended Jimmy.

Jimmy Kimmel Live! returned to the air on Tuesday.
