The confetti has fallen, and there is a new America’s Got Talent champion! The landmark 20th season has concluded, and singer Jessica Sanchez took home the trophy. She bested freestyle rapper and runner-up Chris Turner and is taking home the title and the $1 million grand prize. Talk about second chances and glorious redemption!
We already knew this season of America’s Got Talent was going to be special. To commemorate this special milestone year, AGT gave viewers a closer look at the process. This included what the judges do behind the scenes and how the contestants feel throughout the journey. It made the viewers feel like they were there all the way until the winner was crowned.
Jessica Sanchez is the Season 20 winner of AGT
The champion is Jessica, and she truly proved that dreams can come true no matter the timeline. When the result was announced, she broke down in tears and told host Terry Crews, “I’m sorry, I’m really emotional, this is amazing. Thank you so much!”
It wasn’t the first time Jessica found herself on the finals stage. In American Idol Season 11, she made it all the way to the end but did not make it to the list of Idol champs. She lost out to fellow contestant Philip Phillips.
Not this time, though. Her crowning was also an exciting moment for Sofia Vergara. The judge is the one who gave Jessica her Golden Buzzer earlier in the season, sending her straight to the live shows.
What a success story! Jessica not only competed on American Idol but also stepped foot on the AGT stage nearly 20 years ago as a 10-year-old contestant during Season 1. She’s now back, and she’s won it all. What makes it even more special for the champion is that she did it in her final weeks of pregnancy with her first child. The perfect good luck charm!
For her final performance, Jessica sang Die with a Smile by Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga. She wowed everyone with her heartfelt powerhouse performance.
“This has been 20 years in the making. This would mean everything,” Jessica said prior to learning that she had won it all last Wednesday night.
What a fairytale ending! In a season with incredible performances, a reality TV star contestant in the mix, and a whole lot of talent, Jessica rose above it all to win the prize.
