Princess Margaret’s Burn Injury Exposed as Alleged Self-Harm in Bombshell New Book

A new book about the royal details a terrible act of “self-mutilation” that occurred during her later years. In Princess Margaret and the Curse, author Meryle Secrest claims that Queen Elizabeth’s sister once purposely burned her feet so badly she was left unable to walk properly.

Excerpts from the biography obtained by Radar Online recount the alleged incident. In 1999, the Princess was enjoying her final time at her former Caribbean home. She had given the home to her son David, who was preparing to sell it. She was taking one of her regular steam baths. Her lady-in-waiting noticed she had been in the tub longer than usual.

The royal staffer opened the bathroom door to find Margaret sitting on the edge of the tub with her feet in scalding water. The lady in waiting said that as they tried to remove the Princess, “her feet were so badly burned that after the water drained away, bits of skin could be seen sticking to the side of the tub.”

The Queen sent her sister for treatment at a burns center in London. While she did eventually recover, her lady in waiting revealed that she “never really walked again.”

While no one knows what caused the painful act, insiders say Margaret was devastated by her son’s decision to sell the home on the private island of Mustique. It is also alleged that the Princess suffered from an “invisible disability”, which insiders say could have been the result of fetal alcohol syndrome.

Margaret had been a prolific drinker and smoker for most of her life, and suffered a stroke in 1998. She also suffered from mental health issues and allegedly talked about committing suicide.
