Plans for a Britney Spears biopic have hit an impasse.
The reason may be the pop star’s insistence on meddling in the process, which is bothering producers. The Baby One More Time singer has been in front of the camera for movies before; being on the other side of the lens is new territory.
“Britney’s inexperience with screenwriters, script development and modern filmmaking in general is an obstacle in the process,” a source revealed. Numerous companies were apparently pursuing the idea of a movie about Britney, which is why she was hoping to have more control.
That desire, however, appears to be creating a lot of tension.
Britney Spears’ memoir The Woman in Me is set to become a movie

For the moment, a movie about Britney Spears is still a go, but the singer isn’t exactly winning over the scriptwriters at Universal.
Production on the film based on her 2023 memoir The Woman in Me has reportedly come “grinding to a halt, according to RadarOnline.com. Sources suggest that Britney is out of her depth with all the meddling she’s doing regarding the script.
Jon W. Chu, who directed Wicked, is set to direct the Britney biopic. “We just want to do her right and tell the story that she deserves, he said. If Britney isn’t careful, this film may never happen. Reports suggest that Universal is willing to walk away from this project if the development process remains problematic.
It wouldn’t be the first time the production company turns its back on making a biopic about a famous singer. Universal previously scrapped a Madonna biopic, which was supposed to star Jennifer Garner. That project ended to allow the singer to focus on a world tour. There is hope that they could revisit that idea again one day.
