Matty Healy Throws Shade at Taylor Swift’s Songwriting: ‘Hack and Cheap’

It may have been a couple of years since their breakup, but things seemingly still aren’t amicable between Matty Healy and Taylor Swift. The 1975 frontman appeared to make a dig at the singer in a TikTok comment on Friday. Because nothing says “I’ve moved on” like throwing shade on social media.

Matty Healy says he’s “never written a song about a real person” as a Taylor Swift fan tried to connect his music to her

Matty and Taylor only dated for a few months over the summer of 2023. But their brief fling has given us plenty of shade to savor. In the most recent offering, the British singer seemed to reference his famous ex in a TikTok comment.

Replying to a comment on a fan-made video stating that one of the 1975’s songs was about Taylor Swift, a comment posted from an account widely believed to be Matty Healy’s read: “No it’s not, you are all experiences [sic] the Baader-Meinhof phenomenon. I’ve never written a song about a real person, that’s hack and cheap.”

The response seemed to be a swipe at Taylor, who famously uses her exes as songwriting fodder. Many commenters on Reddit were quick to point out that the 1975 singer might be fibbing. One fan wrote: “lmao he 100% has written songs about real people.”

To be fair, Taylor gave more than a little shade in Matty’s direction in her song “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived”. The song, taken from The Tortured Poets Department album, is widely believed to be about Matty. It includes lyrics like: “You didn’t measure up

in any measurе of a man.”

When asked about the track by a paparazzo last year, he replied: “My diss track? Oh, I haven’t really listened to that much of it [the album], but I’m sure it’s good,” reported TMZ.
