Sean “Diddy” Combs is set to be sentenced on Friday. The musician may be fishing for a light sentence, but the prosecution in the case aren’t having it. They are urging for a harsher penalty, arguing that he is “unrepentant” following his conviction.
Diddy faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison
Diddy will be sentenced in New York City on Friday. Federal prosecutors are keen for the rapper to be handed a pretty hefty punishment. In documents obtained by TMZ, they asked the judge to opt for a sentence of at least 11 years. Diddy’s defense team previously urged the judge to release him immediately after the sentencing.
Prosecutors say Diddy should be given “at least 135 months’ imprisonment” and a $500k fine. He was found guilty of two counts of transporting male prostitutes across state lines, as part of his now infamous “freak-offs”. They also pointed to the fact that others who had committed similar crimes were given more than 10 years.
The legal team added that Diddy is “unrepentant”, and has apparently claimed “his victims should shoulder the blame.” The prosecution claims he is attempting to portray decades of abuse as merely a mutually toxic relationship. They said: “There is nothing mutual about a relationship where one person holds all the power and the other ends up bloodied and bruised.”
Prosecutors concluded that the media mogul’s sentence needs to “reflect the substantial psychological, emotional, and physical damage he has inflicted.”
The disgraced musician is looking at a maximum of 20 years in prison. He was found not guilty of the more serious charges of sex trafficking and racketeering. Those charges could have landed him a life sentence.
