JK Rowling’s Scathing Response to Emma Watson: ‘So Little Experience of Real Life’

In a turn of events that will shock no one, JK Rowling has hit out at Emma Watson after the actress mentioned her in a recent podcast. Emma commented on the pair’s different views on transgender rights, and the author had some scathing words in return.

JK Rowling called Emma Watson “ignorant of how ignorant she is”

Emma made some pretty benign comments during a recent interview, where she talked about separating her personal beliefs from the memories she created with the author. She said: “I really don’t believe that … holding the love and support and views that I have, mean[s] that I can’t and don’t treasure Jo and the person that I had personal experiences with.”

The author (somehow) saw the comments as a personal attack rather than an olive branch. In a lengthy post on X, she labeled Emma “ignorant”. She wrote: “Emma and Dan [Radcliffe] in particular have both made it clear over the last few years that they think our former professional association gives them a particular right – nay, obligation – to critique me and my views in public. Years after they finished acting in Potter, they continue to assume the role of de facto spokespeople for the world I created.”

She wrote that Emma had “never experienced adult life uncushioned by wealth and fame”. She added: “Emma has so little experience of real life she’s ignorant of how ignorant she is … I wasn’t a multimillionaire at fourteen. I lived in poverty while writing the book that made Emma famous.”

JK didn’t stop there, accusing Emma of “trashing” women’s rights. She wrote: “I therefore understand from my own life experience what the trashing of women’s rights in which Emma has so enthusiastically participated means to women and girls without her privileges.”
