Ellen DeGeneres married her wife, Portia de Rossi, in 2008. The couple recently celebrated their 17th wedding anniversary in August. However, according to sources, Rossi now wants some space from the comedian to clear her thoughts. The move comes as DeGeneres micromanages every aspect of the Rossis’ life, which is now making things difficult for her.
Ellen DeGeneres’ wife wants some time apart to clear her head, says source
It seems Ellen DeGeneres’s marriage to wife Portia de Rossi is going through troubled times. The couple moved to the UK in 2024 after DeGeneres ended her talk show, “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” in 2022. But now, sources tell RadarOnline.com that the comedian is suffocating his wife by micromanaging everything. “Portia loves Ellen dearly, but she feels totally suffocated much of the time, because every aspect of her life is constantly micromanaged,” an insider revealed.
The source further added that if Rossi “wants to go for a horse ride, a jog, even a trip to the shops, it’ll be met with a dozen questions.” And since “Ellen hates going anywhere by herself, so Portia’s always on the hook to be by her side.”
DeGeneres is “extremely protective of Portia,” which the source believes is “sweet to a certain extent.” However, it might make things difficult in their marriage as “Portia wants to break out and do her own thing and she’s constantly suppressed.” Due to all this, the former actress is “putting her foot down and insisting Ellen give her breathing room.”
The insider confided that the 52-year-old star “can’t go on like this.” She is “seriously considering some time apart to clear her head and get her life back.” Looking at their dynamics now, the source feels, “if Ellen doesn’t back off and listen it may well just drive Portia out the door permanently.”
