It takes a special person to find fame in the work they do for animals and the environment. Jane Goodall was someone who became a household name because of the positive impact she had on the world around her.
The incredible conservationist and primatologist spent decades studying Chimpanzees in their native Tanzania. She became an expert on the primates by studying them up close and personal. Video footage from her time in Tanzania shows the chimps climbing on her and making their way into her camp. She got to observe them on a personal level, and in the process, changed the way we think about the amazing creatures.
Jane taught the world so much. She showed a direct link to how similar humans are to primates, especially the chimpanzee. She spent decades advocating for the environment, calling on individuals and governments to keep the world wild. She worked endlessly to protect chimps from extinction, being named a UN Messenger of Peace in 2002.
Jane Goodall has passed away at 91

After decades spent advocating for animals, Jane passed away of natural causes while on a speaking tour in California. Although she was in her 90s, she never slowed down. She kept spreading her message to crowds around the world.
“The Jane Goodall Institute has learned this morning, Wednesday, October 1, 2025, that Dr. Jane Goodall DBE, UN Messenger of Peace and Founder of the Jane Goodall Institute has passed away due to natural causes,” a statement from her organization read. “She was in California as part of her speaking tour in the United States.”
It continued, “Dr. Goodall’s discoveries as an ethologist revolutionized science, and she was a tireless advocate for the protection and restoration of our natural world.”
Her impact will live on, as well her message of conservation and animal advocacy.
