Prince William revealed he’s got big plans for the Royal Family when he becomes King … and it’s all starting with how he and Kate Middleton are raising their children.
In a new documentary, Prince William revealed he wants to give his children a “normal home life”, something he didn’t have growing up with King Charles and the late Princess Diana.
Prince William made rare comments about his mother and father’s relationship
Speaking to Eugene Levy on The Reluctant Traveler, the future monarch said he will create “change for good” when he’s head of the Royal Family. But, for his kids – Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis – that means starting with a stable home life.
“I think it’s really important that that atmosphere is created at home,” he said when asked if he wanted his children to have a “relatively normal home life”.
“You have to have that warmth, that feeling of safety, security, love,” William went on, adding that this was “certainly” part of his own childhood. But, the Prince of Wales continued, that only “lasted a short period of time” as his parents divorced when he was eight years old.
Commenting on his parents’ highly publicised relationship and split, he said: “You take that and you learn from it and you try and make sure you don’t do [sic] the same mistakes as your parents.”
With that in mind, William said he wants to do “what’s best” for the Wales children, but admitted that’s difficult when living life in the public eye. “The drama and the stress when you’re small really affects you when you’re older,” he said. “I saw that with my parents. The media were so insatiable back then.”
“If you let that creep in, the damage it can do to your family life is something that I vowed would never happen to my family,” William continued. “And so, I take a very strong line about where I think that line is and those who overstep it, I’ll fight against.”
