Taylor Swift’s released her new album today, and fans are already hard at work deciphering her cryptic lyrics. Rumor has it that one song on The Life of a Showgirl references Charli XCX. Swifties are speculating that the lyrics could be a response to a track Charli wrote about Taylor – and she has penned a pretty scathing reply.
Is Actually Romantic a Taylor Swift diss track against Charli XCX?

Beware anyone who crosses Taylor Swift – the singer has a penchant for unleashing her wrath via her lyrics. This time, it’s said to be Charli XCX who is the target of her latest not-so-subtle digs.
So, some background. Charli released her song Sympathy Is a Knife in 2024. The song is rumored to be about Taylor, who previously dated Matty Healy, the bandmate of Charli’s husband, George Daniel. The track includes lyrics explaining how Charli feels insecure around another woman with ties to her husband’s band, The 1975.
She sings: “I don’t wanna share the space / I don’t wanna force a smile / This one girl taps my insecurities / Don’t know if it’s real or if I’m spiraling.”
She goes a bit further, adding: “Don’t wanna see her backstage at my boyfriend’s show / Fingers crossed behind my back, I hope they break up quick.”
Clearly, Taylor wasn’t going to let this alleged shade slide. In new song Actually Romantic, the hitmaker sings:
“I heard you call me ‘Boring Barbie’ / When the coke’s got you brave / High-fived my ex and then you said / You’re glad he ghosted me / Wrote me a song saying / It makes you sick to see my face.”
She continues: “It’s kind of making me wet / ’Cause it’s actually sweet / All the time you’ve spent on me / It’s honestly lovely / All the effort you’ve put in / It’s actually romantic / Really got to hand it to you, to you / No man has ever loved me like you do.”
Another potential clue: Actually Romantic is the seventh song on Taylor’s new album. On Charli’s album Brat, the seventh song is Everything Is Romantic.
