Prince William Confessed His Parents’ Divorce Shaped His Family Choices

Prince William wants to give the best to his kids and family. The Prince of Wales recently got candid on an episode of “The Reluctant Traveler,” hosted by Eugene Levy. He stated that his parents’ divorce deeply affected his parenting choices. He further added that he wants to give his children a calm life that he himself didn’t have growing up.

Prince William said he wants to avoid ‘same mistakes’

In a recent episode of “The Reluctant Traveler,” an Apple TV+ series by Eugene Levy, Prince William talked about his parents’ divorce. He expressed how their marriage shaped his idea of parenting. During the interview, he also shared how he spends time with his wife, Kate Middleton, and his journey towards his future role as King of England.

He acknowledged that his main focus as a monarch will be to bring about “change for good.” However, in his family life, he will also focus on stability.

When the host asked him if he wanted his children to have a “relatively normal home life,” William noted that he did.

“I think it’s really important that the atmosphere is created at home. You have to have that warmth, that feeling of safety, security, love,” Prince William admitted. He further expressed that these things were a part of his childhood. However, since his parents got divorced, that “lasted a short period of time.”

King Charles (then Prince) and Princess Diana, William’s parents, divorced in 1996 after nearly 15 years of marriage. Prince William told Levy that he wants to avoid the “same mistakes” that his parents made. He further talked about how his parents’ divorce shaped his beliefs about parenting and family in general. Prince William said, “You take that and you learn from it and you try and make sure you don’t do the same mistakes as your parents.”

The Prince of Wales further continued, “I think we all try and do that, and I just want to do what’s best for my children, but I know that the drama and the stress when you’re small really affects you when you’re older.”

Prince William and Kate got married in 2011 and are blessed with three children. It’s evident that Prince William is committed to creating a nurturing and loving environment for his family.
