Ben Stiller Reflects on Separation From Wife Christine Taylor: ‘I’m Failing’

Ben Stiller has opened up about his split from wife Christine Taylor. The pair had been together for 18 years before they announced their separation. In a new documentary, the actor gives us a pretty candid look at his feelings at the time, and how the couple ended up getting back together.

Ben Stiller and Christine Taylor rekindled their romance during the pandemic

Most of us would probably agree that getting back with an ex is a bad idea. But it turns out that Ben Stiller is a rare exception. He rekindled his romance with Christine Taylor during the pandemic (guess they bonded over making banana bread).

In a new doc, Ben talks about the couple’s separation in 2017 – and how they found their way back to one another. The film, Stiller & Meara: Nothing Is Lost, details the careers and relationship of his famous parents, Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara. The process of making the film clearly led the actor and Real Housewives fan to reflect on his own relationship.

He says, in one scene: “When we separated my feeling was like ‘Oh, I’m failing at this’ and look at my parents they have this incredible 50 plus year marriage and I can’t live up to that.”

Despite their separation, the couple remained close and even attended Hollywood events together. So it perhaps wasn’t such a huge surprise when Ben revealed the two were back together. While living together during the pandemic (along with their two kids), the pair reflected on their relationship while Ben was making the film about his parents.

He says in the doc: “All of a sudden we were together in the house and during that time I started to make the movie too. So there sort of this coming together. Us talking about what we were going through, our issues, and looking at what my parents had been through too in a way I hadn’t looked at it before.”
