Eric Dane was notably absent from the Grey’s Anatomy reunion at the Emmy Awards last month. But his absence wasn’t a snub. In fact, the actor had a very good reason for missing the show. In a recent interview, he revealed that it was related to his recent ALS diagnosis.
Eric Dane missed a Grey’s Anatomy reunion at the Emmys due to hospitalization after a fall

Eric was supposed to take to the Emmys stage in September alongside co-star Jesse Williams. The reunion was a nod to the 20th anniversary of Grey’s Anatomy.
However, the actor didn’t attend the event, and Jesse presented the award for Outstanding Directing in a Drama Series alone. Now, Eric has revealed that he didn’t make the Emmys because he’d been hospitalized after a fall.
The fall was related to Eric’s ALS diagnosis. The disease impacts the nerves in the brain and spinal cord, gradually leading to loss of muscle control. The most well-known person to have it was Stephen Hawking.
Eric explained to the Washington Post: “ALS is a nasty disease. So I was in the hospital during the Emmys getting stitches put in my head.”
The actor said he was upset to miss the event, but added that “there was nothing I could do about it.” He said: “It would have been great to see Jesse and get reunited with some of my peers, and to be able to present in front of my colleagues, I thought, would have been a special moment.”
Eric’s friend and former co-star Jesse spoke very highly of him at the awards show. He told Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet: “He’s solid. The man’s just solid, and we have to be careful, you know, as men to still, you know, take care of ourselves and he’s got a perfect balance going.”
