Moving cross-country to North Carolina, Mykelti Brown and her husband Tony Padron encountered some rough weather.
In the October 5 episode of Sister Wives, the couple encountered a tornado on the way to their new home. Making it even more scary, their three small children were in the back seat.
Mykelti’s mom Christine Brown and her husband David Woolley were not far behind in the U-Haul truck. “It’s our second day moving Mykelti cross country,” Christine said in a show confessional. “David stops at one point, looks at his phone on his weather app. There’s like these little purple spots all over the map, and purple means tornado.”

Meanwhile, back in Tony and Mykelti’s car, they started noticing some thick, ominous clouds in the sky above them.
“We just received a warning for a tornado,” Mykelti said, filming the cloud on her phone. “That right there is the beginning of it. Look how it’s touching down.”
“It’s not a tornado yet, but it could become a tornado,” her husband clarified.
“We had the radio on and all of a sudden they had an alert going,” David recalled. “Alerts saying there would be strong hail storms coming. You know, seek shelter.”
Shortly afterwards, Christine got a frantic call from Mykelti. “The phone rings, I answer it,” she said. “And Mykelti’s like, ‘We’re in a tornado. We’re in a tornado.’”
“Drive right through it,” David advised the couple. “Just keep on driving.”
Though Tony took his advice and kept driving, Mykelti began to panic when huge hail started hitting the windshield. Next thing they knew, a loud thud resounded through the car. “Oh, sh*t!” the chess master exclaimed. “That was a big chunk of hail!”
While his terrified wife asked, “What do we do?” Tony told her, “We gotta keep going.”
As the heavy rain and giant hail continued to hit the windshield, Mykelti discovered a new crack. “Oh, it dented the window, Tony,” she told him in a panicked voice. “Get off [the highway]. It’s denting the windows. There’s broken glass.”
Such a dramatic ending to the episode! Viewers will have to wait till next week to see how the Padron family made it through the storm. They have tornados in South Carolina, too, Mykelti. Welcome to your new home.
