Nicholas Hoult Cancels Reunion Says ‘Can’t Walk or Fly’ Amid Knee Surgery

Nicholas Hoult’s recovery has forced an unexpected change to his public schedule. The development follows his recent knee surgery, which has left him unable to walk or travel, prompting him to withdraw from his upcoming appearance at New York Comic-Con alongside his X-Men co-stars.

Nicholas Hoult revealed that he will miss his scheduled appearance at New York Comic-Con due to undergoing knee surgery.

“I’m so sorry to tell you that I won’t be able to join you this time,” Hoult, 35, said in a video shared on Comic-Con’s official Instagram account. “Unfortunately, I had knee surgery a couple of weeks ago, and I can’t walk or fly yet, so I’m not going to be able to make it.” The actor added that he was looking forward to attending but could not travel while recovering.

New York Comic-Con confirmed Hoult’s absence in a post that read, “We’re wishing a speedy recovery to Nicholas Hoult, who can no longer make it to NYCC. Rest up Nicholas, we hope to see you next time.” Hoult was set to reunite with X-Men co-stars James McAvoy and Elliot Page for a panel celebrating the film franchise. The actor first appeared as Hank McCoy, also known as Beast, in X-Men: First Class (2011).

Although Hoult did not specify the procedure, most knee surgeries carry travel restrictions due to the risk of deep vein thrombosis when flying too soon after an operation. According to the National Institute of Health, surgeons may advise waiting several weeks to months before air travel, depending on the surgery’s complexity.

The actor, who recently portrayed Lex Luthor opposite David Corenswet in Superman, said he hopes to rejoin fans soon: “I hope you have a wonderful weekend and hopefully I’ll be joining you in the near future.”

Comic-Con organizers confirmed that those who purchased photo ops or autographs with Hoult will receive refunds. New York Comic-Con begins Thursday, October 9, and concludes Sunday, October 12.
