Prince William Shares Humorous Anecdotes About Windsor Castle with Eugene Levy

Fancy a tour of Windsor Castle? Prince William might be up for the job if his recent interview with Eugene Levy is anything to go by.

Speaking to the Schitt’s Creek star, the future King revealed a hilarious comment made by a tourist years ago. It’s so funny that the Royal Family still laughs about it to this day.

Appearing on Eugene’s The Reluctant Traveler documentary, Prince William showed the actor around Windsor Castle. As well as sharing his plans for the monarchy and reflecting on his childhood, the Prince of Wales recalled a comment made by a royal tourist.

“The [Windsor Castle] tour guides get to hear some funny stories,” the Prince said. “We heard back one time, that — I won’t name the nationality of the tourist, but – they’re looking around the castle going, ‘Wow this place is incredible, but why did they have to build the castle so close to Heathrow airport?'”

Prince William laughed at the memory, adding: “[The moment] has gone down as the sort of number one quote of a tourist going around Windsor Castle.”

“I know my history is bad, but that’s another level,” he continued.

Of course, the irony is that Windsor Castle was built long before Heathrow Airport. The original castle was built in the 11th century by William the Conqueror. Many years later, the lavish state apartments were added in the early 19th century.

Heathrow Airport, on the other hand, opened as a small airfield in 1930 – centuries after Windsor Castle was erected. The airport went on to become London’s largest, and is now one of the biggest travel hubs in Europe.

Elsewhere in the interview, Prince William revealed he has his own fond memories of Windsor Castle, made with his three kids. “We come in after hours and chase each other around sometimes,” he said.
