Like the title of one of her songs suggests, Dolly Parton is a Powerful Woman. But two weeks ago, Dolly postponed several of her upcoming shows. One week later, her sister, Freida Parton, asked everyone to pray for Dolly, citing a few health hurdles as the reason. But, since Dolly is the unofficial people’s president, fans everywhere immediately started worrying about her health. Thankfully, Freida clocked back in to provide an update that pairs well with another one of her sister’s hits, There Was Jesus.
So, what happened here? Is Dolly going to be alright? Here’s everything we know.
Why were Dolly Parton’s Vegas shows postponed?
Last week, Dolly posted a lengthy explainer on Instagram. Due to a few needed health procedures, Dolly needed to cancel her upcoming shows in Vegas. Here’s what she said. And yes, it is only natural if you find yourself reading her words in her voice.
“I want the fans and public to hear directly from me that, unfortunately, I will need to postpone my upcoming Las Vegas concerts. As many of you know, I’ve been dealing with some health challenges, and my doctors tell me that I must have a few procedures. As I joked with them, it must be time for my 100,000 check-up, although it’s not the usual trip to see my plastic surgeon!”
Dolly then comforted her fans, writing, “And don’t worry about me quittin’ the business because God hasn’t said anything about stopping yet. But, I believe He is telling me to slow down right now so I can be ready for more big adventures with all of you.” While Dolly failed to give specifics about her health, she previously canceled an appearance at Dollywood due to kidney stones.
Next September, Dolly will return to Las Vegas to perform her rescheduled gigs.
Why did Dolly Parton’s sister ask people to pray for Dolly?
Yesterday, Freida chimed in with an update on Facebook. Freida wants the best for Dolly, just like everyone I know. So, she asked everyone in her orbit to pray for her sister.
“Last night, I was up all night praying for my sister, Dolly.” Recapping what Dolly had already explained, Freida noted that her sister had not “been feeling her best lately.” But, “I truly believe in the power of prayer,” she stressed. Then, Freida asked for “all of the world that loves her to be prayer warriors and pray with me” over Dolly and her health.
As Freida concluded, Dolly is “strong” and “loved.” So, with everyone lifting Dolly in their prayers, Freida knows “in [her] heart [that Dolly is] going to be just fine. Godspeed, my sissy Dolly. We all love you.”
This post, however innocent Freida might have intended, scared Dolly’s fans. As one Dolly-lover perfectly penned, Dolly “is the last shining hope for humanity.” In general, this commenter knows that Dolly “ain’t perfect.” But “she sure comes close to it.”
As everyone in this post agreed, we all need this country icon to rest, heal, and return to us when able.
Is Dolly Parton okay?
Freida must have tumbled out of bed and stumbled to her online accounts, because at the crack of dawn today, she posted an update to help ease the fears of our nation, which is already on the brink of an imminent emotional collapse. “I want to clear something up,” Freida began. “I didn’t mean to scare anyone or make it sound so serious when asking for prayers for Dolly,” she clarified.
So, what is going on here? Well, according to Freida, Dolly has “been a little under the weather, and I simply asked for prayers because I believe so strongly in the power of prayer. It was nothing more than a little sister asking for prayers for her big sister. Thank you all for lifting her [in prayer]. Your love truly makes a difference.”
Once again, Dolly has the greatest fans. “I can hear Dolly saying, ‘Freida, I appreciate the prayers, but I ain’t dying yet.’ Lol. No need to apologize, Freida. We all need to pray for Dolly and one another. This world is crazy right now,” one joked, using a hefty ounce of truth to help explain their thoughts.

On X, Stella wrote, “To those with genuine concern for my big sister Dolly’s well-being, she posted a video last week to share with her fans that she has had kidney stones and is getting treatment. My sister Freida is always concerned when one of her siblings isn’t feeling well, so she asked for prayers on Dolly’s behalf.”
