Nicole Kidman, who recently divorced Keith Urban, discussed her thoughts on sex and intimacy. In an interview, she opened up about her attraction to bold, sex-focused roles. Notably, Kidman’s filmography includes erotic thrillers/dramas, where she has played characters exploring sexual power and associated dynamics.
Nicole Kidman talks about sex in new interview
The Babygirl star gave an interview a few weeks before her divorce from Keith Urban. In it, she discussed her career and how women were changing things in the film industry. During the discussion, the 58-year-old shared why she was drawn towards roles exploring sex.
“I don’t know, isn’t that weird that I don’t know why?” Nicole Kidman told Vogue. “Sex is an important part of our lives and is still, a lot of times, taboo, and it shouldn’t be.” However, she revealed that despite her inclination towards bold roles, she is an introvert.
Kidman noted that her film Babygirl was a bookend to 1999’s Eyes Wide Shut, co-starring Tom Cruise. She said that the latter film ended with her character saying “F**k,” while the former ended with her character doing it. “And there is my career!” she jokingly added.
Interestingly, the Expats actress has famously played various characters who have engaged in different forms of intimacy, performed bold actions, or explored sexual dynamics in a myriad of ways.
For instance, in the 2001 film Birthday Girl, Nicole Kidman plays a criminal who enjoys bondage. Later, 2004’s Birth sees her kiss a young boy she believes is the reincarnation of her dead husband. Further, 2012’s The Paperboy sees Kidman’s character urinating on Zac Efron’s character, after he suffers a jellyfish attack.
Additionally, the aforementioned Babygirl and Netflix’s A Family Affair depict her getting sexually involved with much younger men — in the case of the former, playing a submissive partner to a dominant man.
In the interview, the Academy Award winner also stressed she took risks in her work and didn’t dwell on her mistakes. “You get back up and you try again and you learn,” she added. Moreover, Kidman said she loves acting when she lands parts she couldn’t “mentally grab.” “I love when I’m moving out of my own knowledge into a place of…it’s almost like free-falling,” she further stated.
