The Grey’s Anatomy Season 22 premiere aired last night. The episode picked up from the dramatic end to the previous season, where an explosion left viewers wondering who’d make it out alive. Fans had their answer on Thursday, and they had a lot to say on the death of a certain character.
Grey’s Anatomy killed off Dr. Monica Beltran in Season 22
The medical drama may have been running for two decades, but its fans are still as passionate as ever. And many didn’t take too kindly to the death in the new season premiere.
After the chaos had eased, it was revealed that Dr. Monica Beltran had died after guiding a kid to safety. The trauma surgeon, played by Natalie Morales, was introduced in season 20. The gifted doctor seemed to be in the midst of a fledgling romance with Dr. Amelia Shepherd.
Fans took to X to express their disappointment in Monica’s untimely death.
One user wrote: “I have so much to say about this but I fear I can’t stop crying and everybody in that writers room can fuck off.”
A second joked: “TERRIBLE NEWS, Owen Hunt has been found alive.”
Another noted: “Let it be known that this is the third queer character AND actor these writers have sent off/killed in A ROW. this isn’t normal. grow a backbone.”
And finally: “They finally had someone who truly SAW amelia and they killed her, i can’t deal with this.”
It seems Natalie predicted the reaction from fans. In an interview with Deadline, the actress said: “I think the fandom of this show has been so kind to me and so welcoming, and I think those people that have been welcoming to me are going to be pissed. I’m sorry about that.”
