Legendary talk show host Wendy Williams was moved to a memory care unit after she reportedly got “hammered” at a birthday outing. The incident occurred at Coterie Hudson Yards’ assisted living facility’s penthouse bar. Wendy, who was diagnosed with progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia in 2023, resides at the luxury senior community.

Speaking to Decider by phone, Wendy says her situation is “f*cked-up,” and she is frustrated about her living conditions. She has requested a move to another floor, as she is unhappy surrounded by Coterie’s elderly residents. Wendy’s unit costs $25,800 per month, not including legal and guardian fees.
Wendy’s legal guardianship, which oversees her finances and health, was implemented in May 2022. Wells Fargo froze her bank accounts after Wendy’s financial adviser alerted the bank of her “unsound mind.” Wells Fargo petitioned a New York court for financial guardianship, stating Wendy was at risk of being exploited financially. Yet, Wendy continues denying that she is cognitively impaired.
At Coterie, Wendy’s floor is locked, and she can only leave with permission from her court-appointed guardian and the facility. Although phones are prohibited, Wendy can access a landline for outbound calls only.
However, Wendy has been out and about, including at New York Fashion Week. She also attended a “megachurch” in Brooklyn, and said, “It gives me faith and keeps me very well in touch with God and myself.”
Wendy is not the only one unhappy with her care. Her ex-husband, Kevin Hunter, recently filed a lawsuit seeking $250 million in damages, which was dismissed on October 9. He claims her guardianship is “fraudulent bondage” and that the judge in her case is “crooked.” Wendy’s son, Kevin Jr., said he seeks to “build, carve out my own path right now, away from everything” and that he wants his mother “to get out of this. Because it’s not right.”
Although a new medical report is expected soon, it is unlikely the full guardianship will be removed, according to sources.
