In an interview with Vogue Australia published on October 10, Emma discussed how daughters Mabel, 13, and Evelyn, 11, are dealing with Bruce’s progressive disease.
The author told the publication: “I think they’re doing well, all things considered. But it’s hard. They grieve. They miss their dad so much. He’s missing important milestones. That’s tough for them.”
She added: “But kids are resilient. I used to hate hearing that because people didn’t understand what we were walking through. I don’t know if my kids will ever bounce back. But they’re learning, and so am I.”
She explained that they are keeping a journal of words and memories from the time they spend with their dad. She said: “You think you’ll never forget these things, but then you do.”
She recently revealed that Bruce now lives in a separate home to the family.
The entrepreneur also opened up about her own journey in navigating her husband’s health decline. She said: “I’ve had to learn to walk alongside the grief. It’s always with me. I can’t shake it, but I’m going to breathe, and I’m going to be sad and all the feelings and emotions that I’m going to feel, but I am also not going to just allow it to be this one note of that.”
Emma is also step-mom to Bruce’s children with Demi Moore; Rumer Willis, Scout Willis, and Tallulah Willis. She has written a book detailing her experience of caregiving, titled The Unexpected Journey.
