Nicholas Sparks is singing the praises of Jake Gyllenhaal and Phoebe Dynevor.
The pair will co-star in the upcoming movie Remain, a romantic thriller that Nicholas originally conceived. M. Night Shyamalan serves as writer/director/producer in the movie.
The New York Times bestselling author said the continuity between Jake and Phoebe was a joy to watch live. “They both got along. They’re both professionals, but they can act, right? There was chemistry there,” said Nicholas.
He spent numerous days on set during filming, noting the palpable dynamic between the two stars.

Throughout his career as an author, Nicholas has seen many of his works hit the big screen and earn critical acclaim. Nicholas seems confident in his latest creation, partly due to the chemistry of Jake and Phoebe.
“They’re both consummate professionals, and they did the most important thing to me in a film like this,” Nicholas told US Weekly. He adds that: “Chemistry is incredibly important.”
Remain follows a New York architect named Tate Donovan, played by Jake, who goes to Cape Cod to design his best friend’s summer home. It is there that he meets Phoebe’s character Wren, whom he becomes enamoured with and gets entangled in the mystery of her past, while dealing with his own mental health struggles. Filming on the movie concluded in August.
Nicholas’ novel The Notebook earned plenty of Teen Choice Award nominations, among others, with it’s musical adaption receiving some Tony Award nominations. The movie adaptation stars Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams.
Last month, Jake appeared at the Emmys with his girlfriend Jeanne Cadieu. He was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor for his role in Presumed Innocent.
Remain comes out in theatres in the United States on October 23, 2026.
