Keith Urban recently spoke about the “lonely and miserable” reality of being a country music star while traveling before his divorce from Nicole Kidman. Urban, 57, shared his challenges of being on tour in the first episode of his new CBS and Paramount competition series, ‘The Road’.
Keith Urban opened up about difficult tour life in an episode of ‘The Road’ series
The upcoming CBS competition series, “The Road,” offers a rare glimpse into the intense world behind live music. Speaking openly during the episode, as reported by Daily Mail, the Grammy-winning country star described tour life as more than just a career and akin to a “calling”.
Urban shared that moments of extreme exhaustion and loneliness on the road often prompt him to question his path. Yet, he says the only justification for enduring such hardships is the belief that performing is what he was truly meant to do.
“You might find yourself sick in the middle of nowhere, running on no sleep, missing your family and friends, and still have to perform your fifth show that night,” Urban shared. “At that point, the only answer to why you keep going is because this is what you were born for.”
‘The Road’ follows 12 emerging musicians competing to be opening acts for Urban at various venues across the U.S. The series promises not only high-stakes performances but also an intimate look at the behind-the-scenes realities of the music industry.
Country stars Jordan Davis, Karen Fairchild, Dustin Lynch, and Brothers Osborne join the journey to mentor the contestants. Gretchen Wilson steps in as the tour manager, while Blake Shelton and Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan serve as executive producers.
Urban’s insight comes amid personal turmoil. His wife, Nicole Kidman, filed for divorce on September 30 after 19 years of marriage. Reports suggest their packed schedules had increasingly kept them apart, with sources claiming Kidman was “blindsided” by the split.
“The Road” will premiere on October 19 at 9 pm ET/PT and will be available for streaming on Paramount Plus.
