“The Life of a Showgirl” continues to create buzz following its release earlier this month, but when Taylor Swift’s song “Actually Romantic” came out, many thought it was a diss track meant for Charli XCX. While Swift never directly addressed the fans’ speculations, Charli recently addressed the rumor about the track without mincing words.
Charli XCX’s response to Taylor Swift song rumors is pretty straightforward
Swifties have long speculated that “Actually Romantic” from Taylor Swift’s “The Life of a Showgirl” album is about Charlie XCX. Although Swift has never confirmed nor denied the rumors, Charli made sure to shut the gossipmongers with her straightforward reply. During the recent interview with Vanity Fair, the British singer was asked about the rumors. However, instead of saying anything, she “declined to comment on the situation.”
Swift released the seventh track from her 12th album on October 3. With this, fans believed it was a response to Charli’s “Brat” song, “Sympathy is a knife.” Fans think so since the lyrics are about Charli feeling insecure about another woman. “Don’t wanna see her backstage at my boyfriend’s show / Fingers crossed behind my back / I hope they break up quick.”
They speculated that words referred to Swift’s brief relationship with Matty Healy, The 1975’s lead singer. However, according to Elle, the singer had earlier clarified that her song is about her and her thoughts. “That song is about me and my feelings and my anxiety and the way my brain creates narratives and stories in my head when I feel insecure and how I don’t want to be in those situations physically when I feel self-doubt,” she told the outlet.
While Swift hasn’t addressed the Charli rumors, she spoke about the track during an Amazon Music chat. The pop icon said that “Actually Romantic” is about “realizing that someone else has kind of had a one-sided, adversarial relationship with you that you didn’t know about.”
