Kathy Griffin Reflects on Life After ‘The Trump Photo’ and Finding ‘Comedy in Everything’

Kathy Griffin is back and taking her brand of no-holds-barred comedy to YouTube. In her new special, she talks about her life since the infamous photo of her holding a model of Donald Trump’s severed head. Audiences better buckle up, because the last few years have been a wild ride for the comedian.

Kathy Griffin talks “about some heavy stuff” in her new special

It’s been eight years since that controversial stunt with the severed head. During that period, things haven’t exactly been rosy for Kathy. There’s been a suicide attempt, a drug addiction, a lung cancer diagnosis, and a divorce.

While this stuff doesn’t exactly sound like comedy gold, Kathy has mined her recent ups and downs for a new YouTube special. In My Life on the PTSD List, she opens up about being “canceled” after that 2017 photoshoot, as well as her other challenges.

In a recent interview with People, Kathy spoke about her choice to be so candid in the special. She said: “I talk about some heavy stuff, but I got so much feedback from my audiences saying, ‘I’m glad you went there. I have had a bit of a deluge of difficulties since the Trump photo, but one thing after another taught me, okay, you may not see the comedy when you’re living it, but at some point, it will be funny. There’s comedy in everything.”

She also revealed that she lost a lot of relationships following the head photoshoot. “So many of my friends dumped me,” she said.

The comedian divorced her second husband Randy Bick earlier this year. Now she’s back on the dating scene. It’s not exactly going well, though. She told the publication: “I went on a date with a guy who told me if he wanted to, he could kill me with his thumb in under two seconds. Welcome to dating over 60.”
