Jacob Elordi underwent an extensive weight-loss journey before his role in Frankenstein. He performs the character of the Creature in Guillermo del Toro’s project. However, the physical aspect of it all left the actor in great pain, but ultimately, it uniquely helped him. Elordi says it guided him to find an emotional ground for the project.
Jacob Elordi was in ‘great anguish’ due to weight loss for a role
Jacob Elordi stars in Frankenstein, whose filming began right after a World War II miniseries he was working on. For it, he had lost a ton of weight. However, that rapid change left him with physical distress.
Per the Los Angeles Times, the Euphoria actor states, “My brain was kind of all over the place. I had these moments of great anguish at around 3 a.m. in the morning. I’d wake, and my body was in such pain. And I just realized that it was a blessing with Frankenstein coming up, because I could articulate these feelings, this suffering.”
Rather than trying to hide these complex sensations, Jacob Elordi reveals that he used them as fuel for the demanding parts that lay ahead. Given that he was a late replacement for the role after Andrew Garfield left in 2023, he had less time to prepare. The actor says that the exhaustion and discomfort helped him understand his character’s feelings.
Another facet that nudged him towards the role was a negative review left by a viewer years ago. He explained to the publication, “Someone had written after my first film, ‘The only thing this plank of wood could play is Frankenstein’s Creature. Get him off my screen!'”
Frankenstein pairs Jacob Elordi with Oscar Isaac, who plays the titular character. The film is set to release on Netflix on November 7, 2025.
