The discussion is over. After debating whether he should ask Parliament to strip Prince Andrew’s titles, the prince has voluntarily given in to King Charles. The prince’s years-long friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein has cost him his Duke of York title.
Not since Edward VIII stepped down to marry Wallis Simpson has the royal family been rocked by such a scandal. In a long history of Andrew’s self-inflicted scandals and public humiliations, this is absolutely the most significant. Sadly, he has no one to blame but himself.

Just moments ago the BBC announced that Andrew has given up the fight.
His mother, Queen Elizabeth, already stripped her younger son of his military titles and royal patronages in January 2022. Since taking the throne, Charles has been under pressure ever since to go further.
Prince William has made it clear that he wants his uncle and his wife Sarah Ferguson banished. If his father wouldn’t do it, he planned to get rid of Andrew himself when he inherits the throne.
Now the titles Andrew took such pride in are gone. The Duke of York, as well as his Order of the Garter, are both resigned. The sense of royal entitlement Andrew has had his entire life is over.
The close friendship he shared with Epstein cost Andrew his titles, as well as his pride.
Andrew’s ex-wife, Sarah, will also lose her title as Duchess of York. Additionally, his daughters Beatrice and Eugenie will be allowed to keep their Princess titles.
