Charles Spencer is on the mend and celebrating a big personal achievement.
The brother of the late Princess Diana is six months sober. The maternal uncle of Prince William and Harry has been through his share of personal struggles, not just with alcohol but many other traumatic events in his personal life.
In addition to losing his sister, Charles shared last year that he had been sexually abused by a female staff member at the boarding school he attended. This was talked about in his memoir entitled A Very Private School, which came out in 2024.
Charles Spencer thanked his girlfriend for her “quiet” support

Charles has experienced numerous personal setbacks, having been married three times previously. While his divorce from Karen Gordon was finalized, it was reported that he was dating Dr. Cat Jarman. Being with the archaeologist and television presenter has changed his life for the better. “I made it to 6 months without alcohol yesterday. Never felt better,” Charles posted on X. He went on to say, “Thank you @CatJarman for your quiet and thoughtful support in this happy transformation.”
The couple reportedly met while the Norwegian was searching for the remains of an ancient Villa. This search took place at Charles’ ancestral home, Althorp. The two currently co-host a podcast called The Rabbit Hole Detective. They also co-published The Rabbit Hole Book in 2024.
Charles has seven kids from his previous marriages. After divorcing Karen, he said he wanted to devote his time to his children. In that process, he began dating Cat, and the two things seem to be doing wonders for his sobriety journey.
Earlier this year, he paid tribute to his late sister, Diana, on the 28th anniversary of her passing. The Spencers grew up with a tragedy before Diana’s accident. Charles’ infant brother, born four years before him died a matter of hours after the birth.
