Nothing says glamour like struggling for air on the red carpet. Kim Kardashian’s latest look was definitely a choice… and not one her makeup team were thrilled about. The reality TV star revealed that she had her MUA flown into town last minute for Saturday’s Academy Museum Gala – only to cover her face with a mask.
Kim Kardashian caused a stir with her masked look
Kim’s look for Saturday’s gala included a nude-colored dress by Maison Margiela Couture. It had a corseted waist and nipped in waist with a jutting ribcage section. While her unusual gown got plenty of attention, it was her face covering that stole the show.
But not everyone was thrilled about the look. Kim’s glam team took to social media to joke about their frustration with the mask. In an Insta reel, MUA Mario Dedivanovic and hairstylist Chris Appleton note: “I feel like our work really just spoke for itself today. I had this creative flair going for me and the face was insane. I don’t think people are ready…” The camera then pans to Kim, as they add: “A mask? A mask?”
In a separate post, hairstylist Chris captioned a photo of Kim at the event with: “Behind every masked moment is a glam team silently crying?.”
While walking the red carpet at the gala, Kim revealed that she had a full face of makeup. Not only that – she’d flown in her makeup artist especially for the event. She told Variety: “I flew in my favorite makeup artist Mario from New York, and this is kind of a last-minute thing, so I’m sure he’s not so happy with it.”
She did say that she planned to remove the mask once inside, so the team’s prep wouldn’t totally go to waste.
