It’s not every day you’d put Gwyneth Paltrow and “settling” in the same sentence. But, if a new claim is anything to go by, Timothée Chalamet did exactly that when Julia Roberts turned down the opportunity to star alongside him.
According to an insider, Timothée “begged” Julia to play his love interest in Marty Supreme. But the millions Julia was offered weren’t enough to tempt her … and instead, Gwyneth will play the role.

Speaking to RadarOnline, a source claimed that Timothée was keen to work with Julia on his upcoming movie. In case you missed it, Timothée will play the lead in Marty Supreme, which tells the story of ping-pong champion Marty Mauser.
But 57-year-old Julia wasn’t keen on the idea of being Timothée’s on-screen lover in Marty Supreme. Why? Well, it’s all to do with their 28-year age gap, per the insider.
“Julia was offered the role. She wanted to work with Timothée, but she turned down the role after reading the script, which she loved,” the source alleged. “She just didn’t think audiences would buy her playing a romantic interest to someone who’s so much younger.”
Despite Julia’s rejection, the Marty Supreme team didn’t stop trying. “Producers, including Timothée, tried their best to convince her they would gel on screen,” the insider went on. “They kept upping her offer and came close to $20million, but Julia’s answer was still a firm no.”
Because of that, Gwyneth will now play Kay Stone, with whom Marty (AKA Timothée) has a steamy affair in Marty Supreme. The film marks the first time in a while that we’ll see Gwyneth on screen, given that she’s spent the last few years focusing on her wellness brand, Goop.
