According to Unilad, Actor Ashton Kutcher reflected on the impact of his appearance on his career during a discussion at New York Comic Con on October 11. The 47-year-old spoke about both the advantages and challenges that have come with being seen as conventionally attractive in Hollywood.

Kutcher explained that there were “roles I’ve gotten because of the way I look and roles I haven’t gotten because of the way I look”, noting that the situation can sometimes be “frustrating”. He added that he has missed opportunities to play more serious or “down on their luck” characters because casting directors often associated him with certain types of roles.

Reportedly, the actor also spoke about his upcoming television series “The Beauty”, scheduled for release in 2026, describing it as a project that offers him a more complex and layered character. Kutcher said he now understands casting decisions better, emphasizing that “you’re trying to tell a story with pictures, and the pictures need to create a feeling for the audience.”

Kutcher’s remarks have drawn widespread attention within the industry. Sources reported that several insiders found his statement surprising, with some in Hollywood reportedly “howling with laughter” over his claims that his looks held him back.

After his early success as a Calvin Klein model, Ashton Kutcher rose to prominence with his breakout role on “That ’70s Show” and later starred in romantic comedies such as “Just Married”. However, his move toward more serious work, including his portrayal of Steve Jobs in “Jobs”, did not perform as well. A casting director reportedly commented that Kutcher is “charming, not Shakespearean,” adding that “he was hired to flirt, not brood.”
