Backstreet Boys’ AJ McLean and Taylor Swift recently had an exciting interaction on social media. The former uploaded a video of himself jamming to a mashup of the latter’s song “Elizabeth Taylor” and his band’s song “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back).” McLean’s video received a response from Swift herself, sparking excitement amongst her fans.

AJ McLean gets a comment from Taylor Swift

AJ McLean shared a video on Instagram showing him slowly rising from the bed as the mashup of Taylor Swift’s “Elizabeth Taylor” and Backstreet Boys’ “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)” played in the background. McLean then started jamming to the music after the beat dropped and the music continued.

“Come on now you know one of us had to! @taylorswift !” The 47-year-old musician captioned the post, which has garnered 204.8k likes as of writing.

McLean’s video grabbed Swift’s attention. The Bad Blood artist commented, “OH HI AJ OH MY GOD.” Swift’s comment, which earned 144.7k likes, also received a plethora of excited and happy replies, with one fan even calling for both artists to collaborate and make the song an official Spotify mashup they could stream.

The mashup was created by Lydia Getachew, who responded to AJ McLean’s video. “So you’ve heard my mashup!!! I’m freaking out,” she wrote. Getachew also revealed that the full version of her album was available on Spotify. She also exclaimed, “OMG you using my mix JUST MADE MY WEEKEND thank you for the love!”

The official Instagram account of Elizabeth Taylor — after whom the song is named — also responded to the video, writing “Love!”. The account was created by the late actress’s three trustees of her estate, who lead House of Taylor.

“Elizabeth Taylor” is the second track of The Life of a Showgirl. The single incorporates both electro pop and soft rock music styles.

Swift opened up about the song in an appearance on the Elvis Duran Show earlier this month. She explained that she cosplayed the late actress’s life to address her “emotions” and “issues” with fame, essentially merging both her and Taylor’s experiences.

Swift also revealed that Taylor was her role model. The 35-year-old shared, “She is always someone that I’ve looked up to as being this very glamorous, very beloved, but for some reason a polarizing figure — which, [I’ve] found myself in that place, too.”
