The appointment of Kamala Harris as a 2024 Presidential nominee wasn’t done the way one former President would have liked.
Barack Obama apparently took issue with how quickly the former Vice President became the Democratic candidate after Joe Biden dropped out. Almost immediately after Joe’s resignation, the Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, endorsed Kamala. This did not go over well with the former Commander-In-chief.

Like the royal family, there is a clear line of succession for when a President leaves office. The Vice President is next in line to take charge, but for Barack, the 2024 Democratic succession plan should not have been that simple.
Nancy’s rapid endorsement of Kamala caught the former President off guard. In Jonathan Karl’s new book, Retribution: Donald Trump and the Campaign That Changed America, he writes about how Barack and Nancy agreed that Kamala shouldn’t just get the Democratic nomination uncontested.
“The Obamas were not happy,” according to one of Nancy’s confidants in a book excerpt obtained by The Daily Mail. “What the f*ck did you just do?” was apparently Barack’s message to Nancy, according to the insider. Jonathan says the two Democratic power players were in constant communication leading up to Joe’s resignation. It was expected they would each hold back on endorsing anyone. For Nancy, that changed when Joe endorsed his Vice President for the top job. Things got heated between Barack and Nancy as a result.
At the time, Barack was worried about Kamala’s chances against Donald Trump. In the end, it turns out he was right to be, as the Democrats collected only 226 electoral votes —the fewest in a Presidential election this century.
In Jonathan’s book Barack took some heat from Joe’s son Hunter for helping his dad off stage during a Democratic fundraiser. Retribution came out in stores on Tuesday.
