Hilary Duff’s Coffee Spill Incident Is Publicity Gone Wrong — Source

Hilary Duff’s viral coffee spill incident on her Balenciaga bag was reportedly more than just a bad morning. She recently drew attention after posting that she had dumped a whole cup of latte on her Balenciaga bag and car seat, sharing crying selfies on Instagram. Now, according to a source, the actor planned the moment to catch the eye of the luxury brand and spark a freebie or even a partnership. However, the plan seemingly fell flat.

Hilary Duff ‘wanted her oops moment to become an ad,’ per source

Insiders claimed that Hilary Duff’s viral coffee spill incident on her Balenciaga bag was a strategic move. As per Page Six, Duff first showed the mess in her passenger seat and inside the purse, writing that she did not “even get one sip.”

She later posted a selfie in tears and said she called her husband after it happened. The bag appears to be a high-end Balenciaga style. Rob Shuter’s exclusive report estimated it at around $5,000, while similar versions on the brand’s website typically retail for about $3,000.

Behind the scenes, a Hollywood insider told Shuter that Duff’s goal with the incident was to get a new bag and a little fashion buzz. They claimed, “Hilary thought Balenciaga would send her a new one — maybe even post about it.” However, “she got silence.” Another source added that the actor hoped to turn the clip into a fashion moment: “She wanted her ‘oops’ moment to become an ad.”

According to the same source, the reaction inside the fashion world was not what she had expected. In that, as per the insider, “Balenciaga didn’t even DM her. No bag, no collab — just a sticky mess and a bruised ego.”

The post did numbers online, but the follow-up was allegedly quiet, with no public response from Balenciaga and no sign of a partnership anywhere in sight. Hence, for Hilary Duff, who rarely shows off pricey items on social media, the attempt to pivot into a fashion influencer through the coffee spill incident appeared to have missed its mark.
