The ongoing dispute over Prince Andrew’s Windsor residence may have just taken another tense turn. Prince William has reportedly grown frustrated with his uncle’s refusal to leave Royal Lodge.
Andrew has lived in the sprawling property for more than two decades. King Charles reportedly wants his brother to move into smaller accommodations, but Andrew continues to resist and has started making demands. Royal Lodge, once considered one of the family’s most comfortable homes, now represents the divide between generations. Andrew stepped back from public life after facing scrutiny over his ties to Jeffrey Epstein. He has remained determined to stay.
Recent claims suggest William may have stepped in personally, involving Andrew’s daughters, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, in the growing standoff.
Prince Andrew allegedly could be forced to move out of Royal Lodge by Prince William
On Monday’s episode of the News Agents podcast, journalist Emily Maitlis, who interviewed Andrew for BBC’s Newsnight in 2019, discussed what she heard.
She claimed William met with Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie to urge them to convince their father to move out. “You guys have got to get your dad to move out of Royal Lodge; otherwise, we will start reexamining the state of your own titles,” he allegedly told them.
Emily added, “There was a bit of pressure, we understand, being put on the princesses to [tell their dad], ‘This is gonna happen.’” She said, “You can see why Prince Andrew, as a father, would want to keep his daughters happy and keep their titles in place, come what may.”
Emily also said King Charles had planned to visit Royal Lodge to “read the riot act to his brother.” She explained that “the palace got very nervous” about the media attention and “canceled the whole thing.”
The Sun U.K. later reported that no meeting between William and his cousins ever happened. A palace source said the Prince of Wales does not have the authority to remove royal titles.
Even so, reports claim Andrew may finally be preparing to move. He has reportedly offered to take Frogmore Cottage, the former home of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. His ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, is said to be interested in Adelaide Cottage, which William and Kate Middleton plan to leave soon.
A friend told The Sun, “Andy is willing to leave, but these are his demands. He is realistic and knows the writing is on the wall and that his time at Royal Lodge is up.”
For now, the royal standoff shows no sign of ending anytime soon.
