Watchers of The View may be surprised that the hosts won’t be wearing Halloween costumes for this coming Friday’s episode on October 31. Panelist Alyssa Farah Griffin and the morning show’s executive producer Brian Teta revealed the news on Monday’s “Behind The Table” podcast. This is despite the producer saying that many fans were disappointed that the panelists, like Whoopi Goldberg who has dressed up for the spooky season in the past, decided to nix costumes last year as well. However, Griffin admits that the decision to eliminate them was made for an important political reason.
Why The View cohosts won’t be wearing costumes for Halloween
At around the 16:45 mark on the October 17 “Behind The Table” podcast for The View, Teta decided to rip the band-aid off in his announcement that fans won’t be seeing Halloween costumes again.
“This is going to be hard for people to hear, but no costumes for the hosts this year on Halloween,” he revealed. “Just prepare. I’m breaking the seal right now. We are gonna have fun stuff for Halloween, like we did last year. We’ll have ‘Hot Topics,’ we’ll have kids costumes, which everyone loves.”
Both Griffin and Teta teased that the show’s Halloween episode on Friday will have a “little surprise at the top.” The former White House director of strategic communications, who celebrated her pregnancy earlier in October, then shared why Halloween costumes are still off the table.
“I know, I was bummed,” Griffin admits, “but to be honest, with how heavy some of the topics are, you don’t want to be, like, dressed as a grape and talking about what’s happening in our news cycle.”
Teta agreed with the explanation. “Exactly,” he said. “Last year, people complained a lot, but a lot of people watched. So hopefully, we’ll keep it going that way.”
The View cohosts have reportedly been told not to bash Donald Trump as much or be at risk of the show being cancelled.
