Anthony Hopkins isn’t losing sleep over the bad blood his daughter seems to have towards him.
While the longtime actor has been estranged from Abigail Hopkins for years, he says that he’s attempted a reconciliation numerous times. Time and again, she’s ignored invitations to meet up with him and his wife to reconnect.
Abigail is the Silence of the Lambs actor’s only child from his first marriage to actress Petronella Barker. He and Petronella divorced in the early 70s.
Anthony Hopkins thinks his estranged daughter is wasting her life “being in resentment”
While reconciling appears to be an open-ended invitation on Anthony’s part, the feeling is clearly not mutual. That is something that makes the two-time Academy Award winner very sad. “I wish her well, but I’m not going to waste blood over that. If you want to waste your life being in resentment, fine, go ahead,” Anthony told the New York Times.
Anthony adds that his current wife, Stella Arroyave, sends his daughter an invite all the time, but he never hears back from her. Despite this, Anthony says that he tries not to harbour any resentment because to him that is “death.” He believes that he has done what he had to do to try to repair their relationship.
Sir Anthony, as he’s officially known, has three upcoming movies he’ll be featuring in. Among them is Eyes in the Trees, a reimagining of the H.G. Wells book The Island of Dr. Moreau. In 2006, he received the Cecil B. DeMille Award for outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment. For his services to Buckingham Palace, he was knighted by the late Queen Elizabeth II in 1993.
In August, Anthony wore a Kim Kardashian SKIMS face wrap to promote that product. It was very similar to what Anthony had as Hannibal Lecter in The Silence of the Lambs.
When asked if he thought his daughter would read his upcoming memoir, Anthony said, “I don’t care.”
His memoir, We Did OK, Kid, comes out in stores on November 4.
