Jamie Lee Curtis Addresses Her ‘Mistranslated’ Comments on Charlie Kirk

Oscar-winning actress Jamie Lee Curtis is clarifying the controversial comments she made about Charlie Kirk. The 66-year-old appeared as a guest on the WTF with Mark Maron podcast in September, two days after the conservative media personality was assassinated, when the pair began discussing what happened. Curtis said that while she “disagreed with him on almost every point,” the actress did “believe he was a man of faith” and hoped that “when he died he felt connected to his faith.” Curtis has since faced backlash as she has been a longtime supporter for LGBTQ rights, with her daughter Ruby being trans, and she has felt the need to address the issue.

Curtis clarifies that she wasn’t talking about Kirk “in a very positive light”

In an interview with Variety, Jamie Lee Curtis wanted to clarify her position on the matter, saying that what she said “was a mistranslation.”

“An excerpt of it mistranslated what I was saying as I wished him well, like I was talking about him in a very positive light, which I wasn’t,” the actress explained. “I was simply talking about his faith in God.”

Curtis then expressed her frustration over the inability to have nuance. “In the binary world today, you cannot hold ideas at the same time,” she said. “I cannot be Jewish and totally believe in Israel’s right to exist and at the same time reject the destruction of Gaza. You can’t say that, because get vilified for having a mind that says, ‘I can hold both those thoughts. I can be contradictory in that way.'”

When asked whether she feels she needs to be careful about what she says as a high-profile celebrity, Curtis disagreed. “I don’t have to be careful. If I was careful, I wouldn’t have told you any of what I just told you.”

The Hollywood veteran turned heads in August when she wore a low-cut top, something which she joked about later.
