Prince Harry Has ‘No Plans’ To Become US Citizen ‘At This Point’

It doesn’t seem likely that Prince Harry will sit down to take the US citizenship test anytime soon. The royal just revealed he currently has “no plans” to become a US citizen, despite living in California since 2020.

Speaking to comedian Hasan Minhaj on the Hasan Minhaj Doesn’t Know podcast this week, the Duke of Sussex opened up about his life in America. Harry has lived in California with his wife and children since stepping down as a senior working royal and leaving the UK back in 2020.

When asked what the “most American thing” he does is, Harry laughed and replied: “Surf.” He then asked, “Is that American or is that Californian?”, to which Hasan suggested it could be seen as more of an Australian sport rather than an American one.

Next, the host quizzed Harry on more Americanisms, asking if he drinks Coors Light or wears shorts inside restaurants. Harry responded no to both of these questions and gave a hilarious reason why. “I don’t really have legs for shorts,” he said. “I’ve got chicken legs. No one should see my legs.”

After his chicken leg confession, Harry was asked to do his best American accent. “I ordered breadsticks with ranch dressing at Applebee’s,” the royal said in a twang that Hasan described as “decent”.

When Harry attempted to read another statement in his accent, a burst of laughter could be heard from the podcast production team. Although Hasan tried to quieten down the giggles, Harry welcomed them. “The laughter, it’s encouraging,” he said. “Is it encouraging, or is it mocking me? I’m not sure?”

Not ready to give up on the accent, Harry tried to give a convincing “yee-haw”, but the conversation quickly moved on to other topics.
