A new report has clarified that Prince William did not meet with Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie regarding their father, Prince Andrew’s, future at Royal Lodge, despite growing speculation about the ongoing discussions surrounding the property. Prince Andrew has lived at Royal Lodge in Windsor since 2008 with his former wife, Sarah Ferguson.
Prince William not authorized to strip Prince Andrew’s daughters of royal titles — report
According to People, no such meeting took place between the Prince of Wales and his cousins, and William does not hold the authority to revoke royal titles. The clarification comes after journalist Emily Maitlis discussed the rumors on her podcast “The News Agents,” suggesting that William may have pressured his cousins to convince their father to vacate the Windsor residence he shares with his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson.
“There was a question over whether there had been, earlier in the day, a meeting between Prince William and the princesses, Beatrice and Eugenie, saying, ‘You guys have to get your dad to move out of Royal Lodge, otherwise we will start re-examining the state of your own titles,’” Maitlis said on the podcast. PEOPLE has since confirmed that the meeting never occurred.
While Prince William plays a major role as heir to the throne and future king, he does not have the authority to alter or remove his cousins’ titles. Any such move would legally require an Act of Parliament. The report also indicated that Prince William is reportedly avoiding direct involvement in his uncle’s affairs.
Maitlis further claimed that tip-offs suggested King Charles was expected to visit Royal Lodge following his trip to the Vatican, signalling that the monarch might be taking a more direct role in addressing the situation. However, once cameras and helicopters circled the estate, the palace reportedly cancelled the plan. “They thought, ‘This has all got too big, this has got out of control.’ The King just went straight home and never came by there,” Maitlis added.
