Trigger Warning: This article mentions alleged substance abuse and child pornography
Sia built her career with her voice, emotional lyrics, and wigs that helped her stay out of the spotlight. Lately, her personal life is drawing attention.
Her estranged husband, Dan Bernad, filed for sole custody of their 19-month-old son, Somersault Wonder Bernad, affectionately called “Summi.” The pair split earlier this year, and their divorce started a heated custody fight.
Recent court filings reveal both sides making serious claims as they fight over who should raise their little boy.
Sia’s estranged husband Dan Bernad wants sole custody of their 19-month-old son

According to court documents that PEOPLE obtained, Dan accused Sia of being “an unfit and unreliable parent struggling with substance abuse and addiction.” He said she left most parenting duties to nannies while keeping control “from a distance.” Dan added that her home was full of staff, friends, and collaborators who “competed for time with Summi.” He claimed that setup limited his own time with their son.
Sia fired back the next day in her own filing. “I have been fully sober for over six months and working my program which includes weekly testing and a sober companion.” She said her recovery “has been a cornerstone of my life and one of the primary reasons I chose to separate from Dan.”
Sia claimed Dan never spent more than two hours alone with Summi. She said he was always monitored because of a past investigation into alleged child pornography possession. Although that case was closed without charges, she said it “does not appease my concerns of Summi spending unsupervised time with Dan.” Dan denied “any involvement with this alleged contraband.” He claimed Sia and her team “planted” the evidence to limit his time with their son.
Dan said he’s unemployed and asked for $77,245 per month in child support. He also requested coverage for childcare and medical costs. In addition, he asked that Sia take regular drug tests and attend co-parenting classes. He also requested about $250,000 in monthly spousal support recently.
In her response, Sia said his motives are financial. “Every request by Dan for additional custodial time has been directly tied to financial gain rather than a genuine effort to foster a meaningful parental relationship with Summi,” she wrote.
