Former Chiefs Star Has a Message for Travis Kelce After TD Score

Recently, during the Chiefs’ Monday night football game against the Washington Commanders, Travis Kelce tied the record for most regular season touchdowns with former Chiefs running back Priest Holmes. This 83rd regular season touchdown for Kelce came courtesy of a touchdown pass from Patrick Mahomes. Now, in an interview, Holmes reacts to the tied record and leaves a message for Kelce.

Priest Holmes congratulates Travis Kelce amid TD score

In an interview with TMZ Sports, former Chiefs running back Priest Holmes congratulated Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce on tying his record. During the Chiefs’ recent game against the Commanders, Kelce scored his 83rd touchdown for the team during the regular season. This moment also marked his 100th TD for the Kansas City Chiefs, including the playoffs.

“Well, first, my reaction for Travis tying the record; Congratulations, Travis Kelce, you’re in good company,” Holmes said during the interview.

He went on to acknowledge the excitement behind seeing the Chiefs being a “phenomenon” in the league. Further, he mentioned how awesome it will be to see Kelce get the 84th touchdown, hence breaking the record.

However, when the interviewer asked Holmes whether he ever thought someone would break the record, Holmes responded with an interesting answer. As he explained how he once stood in the same position, coming across opportunities to break records, he mentioned how “records are meant to be broken.”

He then added, “I’m thinking, if I were to tell my grandkids about this one day, about this record that I held for 18 to 20 years, what would be the sweet spot about it? As far as my story goes, it was the length of time it took me to do it.”

Hence, while Travis Kelce might have tied Holmes’ record, Holmes will definitely still hold the bragging rights of completing 83 touchdowns in a significantly shorter period. The Kansas City Chiefs will play their next game against the Buffalo Bills at Highmark Stadium on Sunday.
