Barack Obama and Michelle Obama have been married for over 30 years, but apparently, it’s all for show right now.
At least that’s what one presidential historian suggests about their relationship of late. There has been widespread speculation that things are falling apart between the two. While the Obamas have been seen together many times, one insider says appearances can be deceiving.
“The Obamas have been living separate lives for a while now, and whenever you see them on vacation, it’s just an act for appearances’ sake,” according to the historian.
On several occasions this year, however, the former US President has been seen alone at California restaurants.
The couple have two daughters, Sasha and Malia.
Divorce rumors consistently plague Barack and Michelle Obama
Michelle has vehemently denied any speculation that she and Barack were separated. That hasn’t quieted the rumors of a potential split, though. “They clearly haven’t gotten along in years,” historian Leon Wagener told RadarOnline.
While both have kept their private lives exactly that, it feels like there’s been subtle hints of trouble in paradise. In the past, Michelle has admitted their marriage has been “hard,” while saying it’s irritating how Barack chews his food. Last month, Barack said he dug himself plenty of holes with Michelle during his time in the White House. He added that he’s now “at about level ground.”
In January, Michelle was not by her husband’s side for former President Jimmy Carter’s funeral. She also skipped Donald Trump’s Presidential inauguration later that month with Barack present.
Michelle has said there has not been a moment in their marriage when she has thought of leaving. Leon, though, says they barely speak to one another these days. A potential divorce for the two could be around $70 million.
