Whitney Leavitt is one of the most talked-about contestants on Dancing with the Stars Season 34. While Whitney has her fans, not all of the attention she’s received has been positive. One of the biggest issues fans have with Whitney this season is the judges’ alleged favoritism toward her. While this isn’t necessarily Whitney’s fault, it could stem from her dance background. The judges know that Whitney is a good dancer and they don’t miss an opportunity to compliment her.
However, as some fans have pointed out, the judges aren’t as hard on Whitney as they are on some of her fellow contestants. For instance, Whitney’s Halloween Dance, in which viewers caught Whitney being offbeat several times, received 9s and 10s. Jordan Chiles, however, received 8s and 9s for a dance that appeared to be much more in sync. The judges also haven’t offered Whitney much feedback, while they are quite picky with some of her competition.
Many viewers also found it unfair that Whitney and Mark won the Halloween Monsterthon. Alix Earle and Val Chmerkovskiy came in second, but fans overwhelmingly agreed that Alix had performed better than Whitney. The judges were once again accused of being biased toward Whitney. While this is all just speculation, the judges do seem to favor her in certain ways at times.
Whitney came under fire after a recent giveaway scandal
Whitney became involved in even more controversy after she and Mark tried to do a giveaway that backfired. The pair had tried to create a giveaway that would give tickets to a live show to two lucky fans. After posting the announcement, however, ABC informed Whitney and Mark that they could actually do a giveaway.
After the giveaway fiasco, some fans felt that Whitney and Mark were trying to buy votes by doing something for fans. Since Whitney isn’t the most popular star this season, it’s possible the pair is worried about receiving enough votes. Others felt that Whitney and Mark should’ve researched a potential giveaway more before getting fans excited. The giveaway scandal was a bad look for Whitney, which likely took votes away from her rather than helping her gain them.
Whitney appeared to smirk when her Secret Lives of Mormon Wives co-star Jen Affleck was eliminated
Throughout her time on The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, Whitney has been considered somewhat of a villain. Some viewers have pinned her as a mean girl, which she seemed to channel during Jen Affleck’s elimination on Halloween Night.
Whitney and Jen were both in the bottom three, which meant that Whitney’s reaction could be seen up close. When it was announced that Jen had been eliminated, Whitney appeared to smirk and then immediately covered her mouth. Whitney couldn’t stop smiling and didn’t go to embrace Jen either. Since both women are from the same show, viewers expected them to be friendly this season. However, it seemed like Whitney wasn’t upset to see Jen go.
With all of these controversies combined, Whitney has found herself in quite a bit of hot water this season. Whitney has been topping the leaderboard consistently, but she isn’t one of the more beloved stars this season. Fan votes play a major part in who wins the Mirror Ball. While Whitney can dance, her scandals and controversies could possibly prevent her from winning this season or even making the finale.
