Prince Andrew hasn’t exactly been winning many friends lately. And apparently his behavior within the royal family has been upsetting his relatives for years. A royal expert says that the former Duke made belittling comments about Kate Middleton – and it led to a rift with Prince William.
Prince Andrew allegedly was “jealous” of Kate Middleton’s popularity
There have long been reports that Andrew and William don’t get along. And while the older prince’s ongoing scandal probably hasn’t exactly helped, their rift may actually have had a rather different cause.
Royal expert Hilary Fordwich says that the friction between them actually began with Andrew’s hostility toward Princess Kate. She told Fox News: “The feud between Prince William and Prince Andrew started primarily due to Andrew’s jealousy and resulting disparaging remarks regarding Kate Middleton. Prince William was infuriated. Being fiercely protective, he instituted a zero-tolerance policy toward any wayward behavior or scandals involving Prince Andrew.”
She continued: “All the more daunting for Andrew was his displacement as his mother’s ‘golden boy’ since he was viewed as Queen Elizabeth II’s favorite. His resentment grew with his plummeting popularity and was then further exacerbated by Kate’s prominence and poise.”
Andrew’s alleged mistreatment of Kate was previously described by royal biographer Andrew Lownie. In his book Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York, he wrote: “My source said Andrew was rude to Kate. And I think he was probably rude because he’s a real snob. He may have felt that Kate wasn’t aristocratic enough to marry William.”
The author added: “While I can only speculate, no one has a harsh word to say about Kate Middleton. She’s been the savior of the royal family. Andrew gets jealous of people. He may even be jealous of William’s popularity. But I do know that when William comes to the throne, Andrew will be dust.”
There has been speculation that William will further isolate his disgraced uncle when he becomes king. It’s been reported that this may include excluding him from his coronation.
