NASA has responded to Kim Kardashian’s recent claim questioning the authenticity of the 1969 moon landing. The agency responded after The Kardashians aired Kardashian’s claim that Buzz Aldrin’s Apollo 11 mission was staged. The exchange drew widespread attention, prompting NASA to reaffirm the success of its historic lunar missions.
NASA replies to Kim Kardashian’s moon landing comment
NASA has issued an official response after Kim Kardashian questioned the authenticity of the 1969 Apollo 11 moon landing during the October 30 episode of The Kardashians. The 45-year-old reality star told Sarah Paulson on the set of her series All’s Fair that she believed astronaut Buzz Aldrin’s trip to the moon “didn’t happen.” She added, “I center conspiracies all the time,” before asserting, “I don’t think we did. I think it was fake.”
Following the episode’s release, NASA responded on X (formerly Twitter). Acting administrator Sean Duffy wrote on social media, “Yes, @KimKardashian, we’ve been to the Moon before… 6 times!” The post also referenced the ongoing Artemis program, which aims to return astronauts to the lunar surface. “We won the last space race and we will win this one too,” it read.
During the Kardashians scene, Kardashian read an old interview with Aldrin and told Paulson that the 95-year-old astronaut “gotten old and now he like, slurs,” using it to justify her doubts. Paulson said she would “go on a massive deep dive” into the topic. The show then cut to Kardashian’s confessional, where she reaffirmed her belief that the event was staged.
A Reuters report explained that some people twisted Aldrin’s comments and circulated false claims that he confessed the moon landing was faked. The report clarified that Aldrin was referring to animations used in news coverage to illustrate the mission, not fabricated footage. NASA has repeatedly confirmed that the Apollo 11 landing took place and that astronauts “did walk on the moon.”
