Drew Barrymore is sharing a very personal aspect of her life.
Earlier this week, the actress and host of The Drew Barrymore Show had Tig Notaro on her program. The comedian went through a double mastectomy in 2016 after being diagnosed with bilateral breast cancer. The documentary she produced, Come See Me in the Good Light, looks at love and mortality after poet and activist Andrea Gibson is diagnosed with terminal ovarian cancer.
That story inspired Drew to share something that recently happened to her. “I recently had a scare,” she said. She adds that she is fine despite having a bad mammogram.

There was not a dry eye in the studio of the Drew Barrymore Show on Monday. Tig’s documentary helped the host let out her fears when she had a cancer scare. “I think that also gives us a little more confidence,” she shared on The Drew Barrymore Show.
Tig described her documentary as “a very intimate portrait of a wildly inspiring, beautiful person at the end of life.” Andrea died from her cancer diagnosis in July. Drew praises the film for its openness, confidence, strength, and courage in tackling such a sensitive topic.
Drew’s willigness to share this personal moment is a big change from last month when a “feet sniffing,” moment on her show made her crew members a little uneasy.
As for Tig, she says her own cancer diagnosis forced her to open up and ask for help. She adds that it made her realize she didn’t have to do everything on her own. She says that asking for help is the greatest gift one can give to themselves, because people want to help.
Come See Me in the Good Light premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January. It took home the Festival Favorite Award. The film will be released on Apple TV on November 14.
