While the organizers of Jake Paul’s canceled fight against Gervonta Davis continue to look for a replacement for the current WBA lightweight titleholder, he has come out to fire some shots against Francis Ngannou, one of the candidates. After Ngannou, who was supposedly in contention to take Davis’ place, publicly expressed his displeasure regarding the opportunity, Paul took to social media to send a strong-worded reply to the former UFC Heavyweight champion.
Jake Paul says Francis Ngannou is ‘scared to lose’ after rejecting fight offer
On November 4, the former YouTube sensation posted a stern message targeting the Cameroonian-French professional boxer on social media. This was after the latter seemingly turned down the chance to fight him.
“Dear Francis – just say you already got humiliated in boxing and are scared to lose to Jake Paul. I accept that. You are light work, my friend. Stuck in mud,” Jake Paul wrote on X (formerly Twitter). The influencer-turned-boxer’s comments come after Francis Ngannou flat-out rejected the idea of replacing Gervonta Davis in the fight against him.
While speaking to TMZ Sports, Ngannou stated, “How can they go from Gervonta Davis to Francis Ngannou? Come on. They’re way different and everything, it makes no sense.”
The inaugural PFL Super Fights Heavyweight champion also revealed, “Nakisa [Bidarian] reached out to me and said how they need a replacement for Gervonta, and I said, ‘Okay, what can I do for you?’ He said, ‘We are looking for a replacement, but I still haven’t gotten it.” I said, ‘Okay, what exactly can I do for you?’ He’s like, ‘We’re thinking about you to fight Jake and to replace Gervonta.’ I am like, ‘What? Who is Jake?’ I was so confused.”
Francis Ngannou further noted that his dec ision not to fight the Most Valuable Promotions co-founder wasn’t about the money. Instead, it had to do with it not making any sense in his current position. Replying to whether the offer looked appealing to him, Ngannou stated, “I think it’s disrespectful instead, what flattering.”
With Jake Paul’s November 14 fight against Gervonta Davis now canceled for good, it remains to be seen which fighter the 28-year-old athlete will face, if any.
