Michael Jackson Biopic Trailer Starring Nephew Jaafar Jackson ‘Deserves an Oscar’ — Fans

We’ve definitely had our pick of music biopics. But does it get more legendary than a blood relative playing the leading role? Fans don’t think so, and they would be right. The highly anticipated Michael movie about the life of music icon Michael Jackson, starring his nephew Jaafar Jackson, just dropped, and everyone is rightfully freaking out.

Michael Jackson is a once-in-a-lifetime star. His music remains as relevant today as it was when Off the Wall came out in 1979. Fans have been eagerly anticipating this new music biopic, which stars his nephew Jaafar, the son of Michael’s brother, Jermaine Jackson.

Jaafar Jackson embodies Michael Jackson in the upcoming biopic

The film is directed by Antoine Fuqua and written by John Logan. It’s been in development since 2019 with the help of the Jackson estate. And while some of Michael’s family members may not be on board, on the whole, the estate seemed happy with the multiple rewrites and re-shoots. The film is set to be released in April 2026.

And now, we have a trailer. It’s literally just over a minute long, but fans are over the moon! The visuals, the sounds, and the music all combined perfectly. And Jaafar is perfectly embodying his famous uncle in an epic montage of stages, family scenes, and more.

Plus, when he speaks towards the end of the trailer while at the studio about to record, he sounds very much like Michael. It sent chills down everyone’s spines. The comments on the trailer, for the most part, are all in agreement. Fans can’t wait for the movie to be released.

“This isn’t just a biopic, it’s a time machine to his era,” one fan said. Another said, “Having your own nephew sing, dance, and play your exact mannerisms in a biopic about you is DEFINITELY gonna be a box office hit!!”

Others talked about the nostalgia they felt, and others preemptively called it and said that Jaafar deserves an Oscar. It wouldn’t be far-fetched. After all, Rami Malek won one for Bohemian Rhapsody, a film also produced by Graham King.

Will Michael follow in Bohemian Rhapsody’s footsteps? We’ll have to wait until April to see. It will really depend on the film. Biopics like the one about Elvis, starring Austin Butler, did amazing. However, the one with Jeremy Allen White that’s about Bruce Springsteen doesn’t seem to have the same steam. Perhaps Michael will outshine them all. Only time will tell.
